Spice of Life Festival

The North Shattuck Association presents a day of celebration for North Berkeley’s “Gourmet Ghetto” at the Spice of Life Festival on Vine Street. The event, sponsored by Google Offers, will feature cooking demos by local chefs on the main Culinary Stage at the festival. These demos will be hosted by the Kitchen on Fire Cooking School , which will also be featured, among other favorite East Bay businesses, in the upcoming Google Offers ‘Gourmet Ghetto’ week, which begins on September 17.

Enjoy tasty street food and neighborhood restaurant fare, make art with the Art is Moving project, listen to storytellers from the California Storytellers Association, and peruse eco-conscious and handcrafted arts, jewelry and clothing.  Listen to local musicians, including the Berkeley High Jazz Band, Maya Kronfeld Group, Con Permisso, and Misisipi Mike (2011 Bay Guardian Reader’s Choice Singer-Songwriter of the Year) and sample micro-brews from Sierra Nevada, Mendocino and Bison in the Saul’s Deli hosted beer garden. Enjoy wine tasting with Vintage Berkeley. Get a trim from the Peter Thomas Hair Design booth, get a massage at Yogakula’s tent, or shop the special things being brought out to the festival by Lobelia and M.Lowe & Co.Jewelry. Park your bike with the East Bay Bicycle Coalition valets and relax in parklets created for the day along Shattuck Ave.
