EPICUREAN CONCIERGE LISA ROGOVIN OFFERS
WEEKLY CULINARY WALKING TOUR OF NORTH BERKELEY’S “GOURMET
GHETTO”
BERKELEY, Calif., May 22, 2008 – The North Shattuck Association
is proud to announce the start of a guided walking culinary tour of
North Berkeley’s “Gourmet Ghetto” led by epicurean
concierge Lisa Rogovin. Ms. Rogovin is bringing her passion for Bay
Area artisan food and wine businesses to the new tour, which will offer
behind the scenes experiences at a revolving selection of restaurants
and food shops along with a discussion of the area’s history as
the birthplace of California Cuisine spearheaded by Alice Waters’
Chez Panisse - "Northern California is one of the most exciting
places in the world for food and it's because growers and eaters take
all aspects of food extremely seriously. I am thrilled to bring people
straight to Berkeley, the heart of Northern California's culinary epicenter,
so they can experience what makes this region's food culture important
and special."
The
weekly tours, starting in June, will feature conversations with the
area’s chefs and food purveyors, as well as a mouth-watering assortment
of tastings and samples. Stops on the tour through the historic culinary
mecca will include the original Peet’s Coffee in Walnut Square,
the eclectic food shops at Epicurious Gardens, the Vintage Berkeley
Wine Shop, and the area’s weekly all-organic Farmers’ Market.
Along the way, tour participants will get to learn more about and taste
some of the following local artisan edibles:
-Raw
food goodies at Café Gratitude
- Cupcakes from scratch at Love at First Bite Cupcakery & Bakery
- Yuzu Parisian-style Macaroons from Masse’s Pastries
- Salts & Culinary Spices at Elephant Pharmacy

Selections and stops on the tour will be changed seasonally, making
the tour perfect for both local foodies as well as out-of-towners wishing
to experience North Berkeley’s “Gourmet Ghetto” from
a unique perspective”, notes Heather Hensley, Executive Director
for the North Shattuck Association, the area’s local business
group. She adds that the tour will also delve into the area’s
fascinating history in the collective movement, and highlight the artisan
shops, galleries, and boutiques which have made Shattuck Avenue and
Vine Street their home.
The
Gourmet Ghetto Culinary Tour will be held every Thursday from 2-5pm,
year-round, beginning, June 5th, 2008. Reservations can be made by calling
